Atwater Beer Buzz November 1


The snow angels have appeared, and with them about 10” of snow …and more on the way! It’s promising to be an amazing winter season so far, and we’re excited to be skiing in three weeks. That’s coming up really fast!

This week flew by, highlighted by a visit to Avery Brewing Co. in Boulder with Chefs Jay Spickelmier and Adam Smith on Wednesday. This trip is an annual favorite, preparing the menu for the Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines Calibration Dinner featuring Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and Adam Avery from Avery Brewing Co. Our team tasted all of the beers that will be presented for the dinner and paired them into courses, brainstorming about food all the while. Several key members from the Avery Brewing team and Marketing team participated in the tasting, which is always amazing. Thanks to the Avery world for their hospitality! 

Tonight a VIP group of travel agency executives came in for dinner and we prepared a special craft beer pairing dinner for them. It was a tremendous success, and we’re proud to feature craft beer with the fantastic cuisine that the Atwater chefs prepare. It’s a wonderful combination! 

This Wednesday Tracey brought wonderful treats from Great Divide and poured for an extremely interested crowd during the snow storm. Everyone who was stuck on this side of the pass was happy to be in Fireside tasting Great Divide Nomad, Hibernation, Hoss, and more. Thanks so much to Tracey for her time and tasty beers! We, unfortunately, were on the other side of Vail Pass coming back from Avery and weren’t able to get back in time for the tasting. 

Next Wednesday Sarah Hautamaki will be bringing in several new Left Hand Brewing Co. products for us to try. She’s excited to showcase Left Hand Sawtooth Nitro and Wake Up Dead Nitro for you, and will be bringing Milk Stout Nitro just for fun. The regular Sawtooth will be here for comparison, and who knows what else….? It’s the usual formula: Fireside Bar, 4:30 – 6:30pm, complimentary tasting + 20% off Small Plates. We’ll see you then! 

Flights & Bites continues from 3 – 6pm daily, and we’re maintaining the Fall/Early Winter Craft Draft rotation for now:

Greetings from frosty Vail! 

The slopes are being gradually covered with lots of wonderful white stuff, and we’re looking forward to being able to play on the mountain again! Ski Conditioning is going strong at Aria, and our craft beer sponsors are fuelling the participants’  athletic determination with goodies via raffle and periodic parties. Thanks again to Breckenridge Brewery, New Belgium Brewing Co., Odell Brewing Co., Ska Brewing Co., and Neal from Great Divide Brewing Co. who hosted last night’s event. Everyone loves our craft beer participation! 

We also have great news to share about our Wednesday Night Craft Beer Tastings……they are going to continue through ski season!  Very exciting to show success on all levels with this program, and once again thanks goes out to each and every brewery for their support. Everyone who has been available and willing to sample their wares through off-season will now also have the chance to visit with all of our guests & locals through the height of ski season, which is absolutely a win for everyone across the board.

Last week Dylan from Oskar Blues brought Dale’s Pale Ale, G’Knight Imperial Red Ale, Ten Fidy Imperial Stout and Deviant Dale’s IPA for everyone to sample, and last night Erich with Boulder Beer brought a variety of things from his arsenal as well. Guests & locals tasted Hazed & Infused, Sweaty Betty, Flashback, Never Summer, Mojo IPA, Freshtracks and a Wine Barrel Aged Saison over the course of the two hour tasting. Many thanks to Dylan and Erich, and next week you can look forward to a variety of imported styles from Tom Jasko with Merchant du Vin Importers. Tom will mix it up with many different breweries, mostly European, and I’ll post the list of beers on the Atwater on Gore Creek Facebook page as soon as I know them. Remember: Fireside Bar, Wednesday, 5:30 – 7:30pm, Free tasting, $2 pizza slices from Atwater.

Looking forward further with Wednesday Craft Beer Tastings, here’s the schedule through the end of the year:

You can also reserve your seats now for the New Belgium/Wynkoop Brewmasters’ Weekend Small Plates & Craft Beer Pairing on Saturday, November 24th from 5 – 6:30pm.  The cost per person will be $25 for the 4 large appetizers (Small Plates) and 4 ounce pours of each of the beers that are paired with the dishes. To make reservations, please either email me back or call Atwater at 970-479-7014. Seating is limited to 50 people, and the event will sell out.

Back to this week with additions to our Craft Beer list. While I was out of town, we rotated through a couple of placements and there will be a few more coming quite soon. New on the list are:
