The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens located at the foot of Vail Mountain, feature an array of stunning alpine rock gardens, a kaleidoscope of flowers, ponds, waterfalls, and beautiful high elevation plants, all laid out in dramatic fashion…sure to please locals and visitors alike!   At 8,250 feet above sea level, the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens in Vail, Colorado are the highest and one of the  most visited botanical gardens in North America, providing free access to over 100,000 visitors annually.

If you’re looking for a relaxing way to spend a summer morning or afternoon in Vail, stroll through the assortment of perennials or sit on one of the many benches scattered throughout the gardens and let your senses take you on a journey of spectacular colors, floral scents and astonishing views and sounds of nature at its best. Stone steps lead you from a wooden bridge with handrails made from branches, to ponds and waterfalls, cultivating a tranquil respite from your busy, hectic life.  The Gardens can also provide the perfect setting for weddings and private events or tours.

This is definitely something for everyone when visiting Vail for a Colorado family vacation.  The gardens are open year-round daily from dawn to dusk. There are a multitude of activities for kids of all ages to explore and learn; an outdoor classroom, no matter the season. Peak flower season is June – August.  And, while most visitors don’t have a problem with the elevation, we recommend you bring sunscreen, wear a hat and comfortable walking shoes and stay hydrated. Water is available in the gift shop during business hours.
